Dr. Sunny Fugate, Principal Scientist

Dr. Sunny Fugate is a seasoned research scientist and innovator with over two decades of experience in the defense industry, specializing in cyber warfare, human factors, and advanced technologies for cyber operations. As a consultant, he helps organizations tackle critical challenges in cyber warfare and human factors R&D, applying multidisciplinary expertise and visionary research to national security and information operations.

Throughout his career, Dr. Sunny Fugate has led groundbreaking research programs in collaboration with JTF-GNO, USCYBERCOM, DTRA, ONR, DARPA, NSA, OUSD, and the U.S. Navy. As a principal investigator at the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC), he spearheaded research on autonomous cyber defense, cyber deception, and human-autonomy trust, pioneering new fields such as oppositional human factors and cyber psychology. His work has advanced autonomic computing, game theory, and machine learning-driven cyber operations, shifting paradigms in cyber defense and information warfare.

Beyond his technical expertise, Dr. Sunny Fugate is passionate about education and outreach. As a board member of the League of Extraordinary Scientists and Engineers (LXS), he spent over a decade promoting science literacy and delivering hands-on STEM education to K-8 classrooms in San Diego County.
