As Director of Cyber Engineering at Fathom5, Matt combines strategic vision with technical expertise to drive growth across Fathom5’s cyber portfolio.  Matt is the product owner for our purpose built secure operating environment TempestOS and our Controlled Unclassified Technical Innovation Environment (CUTIE) cloud environment.

Matt joined the Navy in 2000 and reported to Naval Reactors Headquarters in September 2001 where he served as an engineer working propulsion plant auxiliaries.  He later reported to the Idaho Branch Office where he oversaw the handling, examination, and storage of spent nuclear fuel and became joint refueling group qualified.

Matt reported back to Naval Reactors Headquarters in 2009 and served as Branch Head Propulsion Plant Auxiliaries Group.  In 2014, Matt reported to the Naval Sea Systems Command Chief Technology Office reporting to the Chief Engineer and worked energy projects.

In 2015, Matt began working cybersecurity projects at NAVSEA.  Matt served as the group lead for Afloat Systems Cybersecurity Engineering during the organization establishment while concurrently serving as the program director.  Matt was named the Department of the Navy Cyberspace/Information Technology person of the year for 2017.  In 2019 Matt took on the role of Chief Engineer for the Afloat Systems Cybersecurity Engineering group.  In 2020 Matt retired from active duty and became a civilian.

In January 2021, Matt was appointed NAVSEA CISO. Matt was responsible for all NAVSEA cybersecurity afloat and ashore which includes, but isn’t limited to: policy, standards, capability research and development, testing, operational response, intelligence, assessment, inspection, certification, and authorization.
